Latest Updates (3/30)

State Tournament Postponed

We have decided to postpone the State Tournament to Sunday, April 2nd. All of the times shown on the tournament schedule and the two hour volunteer schedule will be unchanged.

We would never postpone a tournament if we could possibly avoid it. In this case, we felt that this was an action that we had to take in order to ensure the safety of our teams, their supporters, and our many volunteers.

The latest weather forecasts predict that if we were to hold the tournament on Saturday, most of our teams and volunteers would be forced to travel to the tournament in hazardous conditions. Upon arrival, they would have to park in lots that could be covered in deep snow, and it might become difficult to maintain access to the school for emergency vehicles.

We know there are teams that had been planning to stay at a hotel on Friday night, because we’ve already heard from some of you. One of the reasons that we are making the announcement now, instead of waiting until tomorrow, is that we wanted to give these teams as much advance notice as possible, so they could try to change their reservations.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact us!

Updates (3/29)

Revised Volunteer Schedule

There were some errors in the two-hour volunteer schedule that I posted last night. This updated version includes all of the corrections, which are highlighted in yellow.

I’d like to thank Toni, the TM who contacted me this morning to ask why their volunteer was scheduled to work for three hours. Perhaps I shouldn’t post something important late at night without checking it more carefully first? Sorry about that!

Weather Watch

I’m sure many of you have already seen the weather forecasts that are predicting a snowstorm on Friday and Saturday. We’re going to be watching this situation closely. If any weather-related actions turn out to be necessary, we will post a notice on our website.

Instant Challenge Reminder

We’d like to remind everyone that team members and Team Managers may not bring any electronic devices into Instant Challenge. This includes cameras, cell phones, iPads and tablets, computers, watches, and timing devices. It’s best to leave these with someone else before coming to Instant Challenge.

Please don’t forget to bring a copy of your team’s Declaration of Independence to Instant Challenge! We always have copies of the form in case someone forgets to bring this, but it does slow things down when a team needs to fill it out after they arrive at Instant Challenge.

Update (3/28)

Two Hour Tournament Schedule

The two-hour volunteer schedule is now available. Please check the schedule to find your team’s assignment, and ask your volunteer to check in at the indicated location before their scheduled start time. We’d also like to thank all of our volunteers for helping us to run the tournament. We couldn’t do this without your help!

Previous Update (3/25)

Preliminary Tournament Schedule

The preliminary tournament schedule is now available! Please check the times for your team. If you have a schedule conflict, you’ll need to contact Craig immediately! Special scheduling requests were due on Tuesday, so last minute changes might not be possible. But if something does come up, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Bakery Boogie

This is a very popular activity at our tournaments! But in order to run this, we need goodies! Once again, we’re asking each team to bring a treat for the Bakery Boogie.

However, there is something important that you need to know. Bedford has informed us that to ensure food safety, any food distributed at the school must come from a licensed kitchen, or be prepared under the supervision of their food staff. Food prepared in home kitchens will not be allowed. So please purchase your baked treats from a grocery store or bakery! This will also make it easy to check the ingredients if someone has a team member who can’t tolerate certain foods.

Food Concessions

Some of you have asked whether you could sell food at the tournament. NH-DI will be happy to consider requests of this kind. However, we’ve been told that the same restrictions apply to food concessions. Food can’t be prepared in home kitchens and brought to the school to be sold. So if you were thinking of asking parents to make homemade chili to sell at the tournament, we’re sorry but NH-DI won’t be able to approve this. Craig and Lisa have been maintaining a list of everyone who asked about a possible food concession, and all of you should be hearing one from us very shortly.

Raffle Items

Most of you have already donated a raffle item for your regional tournament. We’ve decided that it wouldn’t be fair to ask you to do this again so soon after your regional. If you’ve already lined up something for the state tournament, we’d be happy to have it, and we thank you for your support! But for the state tournament, raffle donations will be optional for our participating schools and organizations.

Please continue to check this page on a regular basis for schedule updates and other important announcements. This is also where we’ll post the tournament results, and photos taken during the tournament.
