Close Encounters, Secondary Level
The challenge required significant planning in addition to creative use of materials and collaboration to produce the final product. The team used multiple materials to assemble an outstandingly engineered solution to “cover” all of the challenge requirements. The design and communication by the team was truly incredible!
The Doors, Hollis/Brooklne DI (130-05679)
Musical Mashup, Middle Level
The Jacob’s Ladder scenery worked very simply but was beautifully crafted with a complex design. The team also had a futuristic harp that was painstakingly programmed by a dedicated team member. The Jacob’s ladder was neatly made and integral to the story with seamless transitions between scenes. These two props stood out in an performance that included many award-worthy elements.
Milford DI Kids, Milford DI (130-94081)
The Meme Event, Middle Level
This team used a unique approach to seamlessly deliver their solution, which featured a well-dressed game show host and creative series of games revealing all elements of their solution. Their costumes were very clever in portraying the characters in the game.

This award honors teams and/or individuals whose solutions have had an extraordinary impact in and beyond their local communities.

The Meme Event, Secondary Level
This team inspired us with their commitment and multi-pronged approach to supporting their cause. We were riveted by their story book about taking on Leukemia by helping to register bone marrow donors and raising money. Their meme, which used a Q-tip and angel wings to symbolize how registering as a donor brings hope to others, will continue to be used by the organization, and their efforts will impact countless others in the future.
