What do oysters, mantis shrimp, and robotics have in common? A pearl of a solution! This team built an RFID scanner to detect objects into a robotic arm. The robotic arm then automatically opened the oyster shell container, and a second robotic arm extracted the “pearls” — all without any human intervention!

This award is given in recognition of those who act as superior role models in the areas of spirit, sportsmanship and volunteerism.

After losing one member out of three on very short notice, they created a mannequin to represent the missing member, and rewrote their script while still incuding the third character. Putting their best foot forward and using the mannequin to represent their lost teammate, they maintained an upbeat and positive attitude throughout.
