The 2026–27 Destination Imagination season invites teams to unleash their creativity through six dynamic challenges: building an innovative object-sorting machine (Technical), racing a rival to a goal using applied science (Scientific), staging a fable using interactive scenery and natural materials (Fine Arts), performing a two-act improv story as a famous duo (Improvisational), engineering an ultra-accurate weight-measurement system for an investigation (Engineering), and tackling a real-world community need set within a video game world (Service Learning). And then challenging your think-on-your-feet skills with Instant Challenge!
Key dates:
- May 15 – July 14, 2026: Early Bird Team Numbers (available to secure at the lowest price at DestinationImagination.org).
- July 15, 2026: Team Manager Resources Released (includes access to the Team Manager Roadmap and new Practice Instant Challenges).
- July 31, 2026: Official 2026–27 Team Challenges Launch for registered teams (the full details for all six competitive challenges are officially released).
Over 100,000 students from over 20 countries will be looking at these wondering which Challenge their team will select for the upcoming season. The Challenge Experience is our flagship program for pre-K, K-12 and university students. Teams develop solutions to project-based STEAM challenges and then present their solutions live at tournaments in the spring.
