NH’s Top Creative; Problem Solving Student Teams Compete for Global Recognition
Top Teams from Around New Hampshire Compete Saturday to Advance to Destination ImagiNation Global Finals
As the value of creativity and collaborative problem solving skills in workplace increase, these are the kids to watch. This weekend in Nashua, the top creative problem-solving student teams from around the state will try to qualify for Destination ImagiNation Global Finals to compete with teams from around the United States and the World.In the fall, over 2,000 students joined Destination ImagiNation teams in New Hampshire schools and community groups to solve mind-bending challenges. Each of the six “Challenge” options for teams blend core school subjects with a focus in the arts, math, science, literature, technical and structural design or community service. Each team competes with other teams in their Challenge and within their grade level.
“The real challenge to the teams”, according to Kara Swedlow, NH Destination ImagiNation affiliate director, “is to solve the Challenges as a team, without any interference from adults or friends. And then to blow away the appraisers [who judge their solutions].” Adult team managers help facilitate the teams, but cannot assist in the team’s solution. “The real benefit to team members is the life skills of learning how to leverage their creativity and that of the team for ‘out-of-the-box’ solutions.”
Destination ImagiNation® is a leading-edge non-profit organization dedicated to teaching participants the essential skills of creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. In all, over 100,000 students in 30 countries participate in the non-profit program each year.
NHICC, who runs New Hampshire Destination ImagiNation is marking 30 years of bringing creativity programs to Granite State schools and community organizations.
