Special Awards

The DaVincI Award for Outstanding Creativity.
This award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity (not skill or talent).

Conant High School 130-10318 The Solar Stage
From the instant this team entered the stage, the audience was captivated by their set design, costumes, dialogue, and performance Their creativity was mesmerizing. It was a WOW from beginning to end–a flawless performance with seamless transformations from setup to conclusion, and extremely effective use of stage lighting.

Highbridge Hill Elementary 130-55269 Hold It!
This team impressed the Appraisers with their use of all-recycled materials to create simple, yet evocative costumes, and a delivery device that transported the Appraisal team to a pastoral world of carnivorous plants. The costumes and delivery device were imaginative in conception and dead-on in execution, and truly illustrate the spirit of creativity that DI is all about.

Rindge Memorial School 130-22421 Built to Last
Between the fairy who was able to bring toys to life, and the evil scientist, this team brought a memorable story to life! There was a very clear storyline, suspenseful music (dum, de, dum, dum), great stage presence, unison parts of the script that contributed to the overall effect, and costumes that supported the storyline well. The result was a wonderful performance that was well above and beyond expectations for this age level.

The Renaissance Award for outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution, Performance

Hollis DI 130-13597 Assembly Required

This team wowed us by demonstrating design, engineering, and planning abilities far beyond their years. This group of youngsters was meticulous, from the color-coding distinguishing parts from finished products, to the “X” marking the precise spot to pick up their containers. Their equipment delivered parts and products with almost no human intervention. Their hand-pump style vehicle held the weight of two kids, and was well controlled. They even created an electromagnetic device, seamlessly integrated into their story, which was capable of lifting heavy loads. In sum…WOW!

Conant High School 130-77715 Hold It!

This team designed and assembled their own technology suite, including a homemade smartboard, infrared pointer technology, infra-red cameras, and computer software. They incorporated this tech as an integral part of a multimedia presentation that effectively illustrated the use of social media in the 2011 Egyptian revolution. The use of impressive technological creations to illustrate technology’s role in societal change was an outstanding blend of technology reflecting society.

Spirit of Discovery and ImagiNation Award (Spirit of DI)

This award is given in recognition of those who act as superior role models in the areas of spirit, sportsmanship and volunteerism.

Milford High School 130-59855 The Solar Stage

This dedicated DI team of three caring and supportive young women exemplified the true DI spirit as they persevered through their presentation, despite a plethora of unforeseen events. We had a glimpse of a great story that they were not able to finish because of their technical difficulties. They remained supportive of each other throughout.
