This award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity (not skill or talent).
Berlin Schools
Challenge: The Solar Stage Elementary Level
Biting wit and sarcasm that cut to the core! This team of British hobos’ accents really drew us in. They created a book called “Hobos for Dummies,” and the Appraisers loved this creative use of parody, and the team’s use of sarcasm and humor.
The Renaissance Award for outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution, Performance
Bow Memorial School
Challenge: The Solar Stage Middle Level
This team shook us up with their performance, their knowledge base, and their scenery. They amazed the Appraisers with the elegantly refined simplicity and effective incorporation of central light and artistic scenery panels. Their effective use of materials and black light to highlight the mood of being under the sea was outstanding! The performance also included a memorable and smooth performance, beautifully executed, of original song.
Spirit of Discovery and ImagiNation Award (Spirit of DI)
This award is given in recognition of those who act as superior role models in the areas of spirit, sportsmanship and volunteerism.
Alton Central School
Challenge: Hold It! Middle Level
This team knew exactly what to do when they heard that another team was having trouble with a key element of their solution. No one had to ask them for help – they immediately volunteered to lend their own equipment to a team competing with them in the same Challenge. We would like to recognize the team from Alton Central School. They represent the Spirit of DI that is shared by many other teams here that would do exactly the same thing in this situation.
