Delivering Scores to Score Room
In NH-DI we rely on our Score Room Liaisons to play a pivotal role in delivering scores to our central Tournament Score Room. How this is done varies based on whether your challenge room is using Mobile Scoring or not.
In this topic we will cover:
Traditional NH-DI flow of Paperwork
- Liaison collects paperwork from the team
This is often supplied by the Prep Appraiser after Prep is completed - liaison provides scoring appraisers with team-supplied tournament data forms (TDFs)
- remaining team-supplied paperwork goes into the Packet in case it is needed later
- Appraisers score on their score sheets
- each appraiser hands their score sheet to the Liaison once completed
- Liaison checks the score sheets for errors
- make sure appraiser scores the items (and only the items) assigned to them
- make sure scores are legible
- make sure scores are in range (0-30 for subjective; as indicated on score sheet for objective)
- for objective scores make sure all appraisers scoring the item have the same score
- Liaison transfers Appraiser Sticky notes to Team's Sticky Form
- we typically check that the notes are appropriate
- Liaison orders the score sheet in the front of the Packet
- deduction worksheet if there is one
- prep area checklist
- challenge worksheets if challenge has them
- appraiser score sheets
- other paperwork
- team stickies come last
- Liaison gives the Packet to a score runner for transport to the Score Room
- Liaison gets the Packet back from the Score Room
- if the Packet has a red-dot indicating a problem, the liaison will find a description of the issue(s) described on the top sheet in the Packet. Based on what is listed, the liaison works with the Head Appraiser to get it resolved.
- if the Packet has a green-dot, the top 2 sheets in the Packet will be the Raw Scores
- let the Head Appraiser know the scores are ready to review with the team
A Liaison may have several Packets that they are dealing with simultaneously.
- the current team performing
- the next team to perform
- Packets that have been returned from the Score Room
We suggest having one open at a time so they don't get mixed up.
In the scheme above, the Liaison collects a Packet for a team together, ships it off to Score Room, and waits for the processed Packet to return. With Mobile Scoring, this sequence changes because the Score Room will get scores from the mobile devices used by the Appraisers rather than their score sheet.
Mobile Scoring Flow of Paperwork
- Liaison collects paperwork from the team
This is often supplied by the Prep Appraiser after Prep is completed - Liaison provides scoring appraisers with printed team-supplied tournament data forms (TDFs) - many will be online starting in 2020 season
- Remaining team-supplied paperwork goes into the Packet in case it is needed later
- Appraisers score using their Mobile Devices
- Liaison can check that all Appraisers have submitted their scores to the Score Room
- Liaison transfers Appraiser Sticky notes to Team's Sticky Form
- we typically check that the notes are appropriate
- As the Score Room will not get the packet, it does not care about the order of the paperwork in the Packet
- ---NO transport of the Packet to the Score Room---
- Liaison gets a folder of Raw Scores back from the Score Room
- the likelihood of a red-dot is very low since most of the errors appraisers make are caught by the mobile client
If there is one, you get a page with the issue(s). - the typical case is that one or more teams Raw Scores will be in the folder
- place the Raw Scores in the appropriate Packet
- let the Head Appraiser know the scores are ready to review with the team
Choosing the Paperwork Flow for my Challenge Room
Which flow should I use in my challenge room? If you are all paper or all mobile, the choice is clear. But what happens if you have some appraisers using paper and some using mobile?
If you have any appraisers scoring on paper, the Packet needs to go to the Score Room so the paper scores can be entered. The flow will be a slightly modified traditional with these changes:
- you only need to send the score sheets of the appraisers scoring on paper
Appraisers doing mobile scoring can hold onto their score sheets, but the Score Room will need any paper deduction sheets, all worksheets, etc. - check the paper score sheets as you would for all paper case
For objective scores on paper, make sure they agree with those of the mobile scorers.
