This team took us to the polar ice cap in a well-polished and visually stunning presentation. The appraisers were impressed by the team’s incorporation of research, and their balance of the science with the depiction of the local culture. The team worked seamlessly together to create an educational and entertaining performance.
Team: 130-17797 — Sunapee Middle High School / Musical Knights
Challenge: Change of Tune — Middle Level
Reason Award was given:
This team “wowed” us continuously. First, with their well-crafted “entire set” on wheels. The turrets had 2 working set designs. The artistry was incredible. The attention to detail was meticulous, with leaves cut perfectly to make garlands, and hand-crocheted drawbridge chains. The second “wow” was the marionette dragon. The skin was created with boiled toiled paper and old Christmas cards. The marionette came to life with flapping wings and a moving jaw. Fabulous! Finally, a team member played 2 characters simultaneously, and rocked a homemade 2-sided costume with makeup to fit. She was funny and talented! Plus so much more…the papier mâché work was prevalent and very well manufactured. BRAVO! Encore!
Team: 130-16399 — Highbridge Hill Elementary / HHES
Challenge: Drop Zone — Elementary Level
Reason Award was given:
This team wowed the appraisal team by taking us on a honeymoon adventure to Veggie Island. The team’s creative use of materials and detailed craftsmanship of a realistic corncob cabin, and their well-rehearsed skit and flowing story, was impressive for such a young team. To top it all off, the team created a motorized iceberg lettuce that reminded us all to eat our veggies.
