Special Awards

The DaVincI Award for Outstanding Creativity. 
This award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity (not skill or talent).

Windham DI 130-12278 Solar Stage Middle Level
This team cleverly incorporated many different themes into their story about a solar energy prototype used to cure diabetes.  Their elegant, rich in detail story told the appraisers about a the very complex process of photosynthesis by using themes from Hansel and Gretel, Wizard of Oz, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Raven and Romeo and Juliet.  The team transformed these pieces of literature into a complex and highly scientific device that showed water, CO2 and Solar Energy could be combined to create Glucose via Photosynthesis… Who knew that solar energy could be used to solve a medical problem?  The teams amazing integration wowed these appraisers opening their eyes to the amazingly creative potential for Solar Energy.

The Renaissance Award for outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution, Performance

Londonderry Duct Tape Dudes 130-32235 Assembly Required Elementary Level

This team blew the appraisers away with their risky hover craft design and flawlessly organized execution.  This solution was beyond our wildest expectations.  They used advanced strategies and infrastructure to create an amazingly efficient design that had been precisely planned to account for surprising challenges.

Cooperative Middle School 130-02204 Assembly Required Middle Level

They calculated their way to an outstanding solution, by using team created calibration tools they were able to ensure the mathematically precise placement of their equipment in order to maximize its functionality.  Their highly complex equipment design showed an elegance and craftsmanship beyond their years.

Windham DI 130-84612 Hold It Elementary Level

This team constructed a remarkable scenery changing apparatus.  The sophisticated and intricate gear system demonstrated a knowledge of mechanics beyond their years and their lighting brought the night sky to life.  The many aspects of this rotating set, from mechanics to lighting to design, gave everyone on this team a chance to truly shine

Pinkerton Academy 130-24623 Coming Attractions Secondary Level

This team’s TV set scenery perfectly facilitated the teams performance from the moment it was “Switched” on it helped the movie trailer to flow smoothly.  The action, from high speed to slow motion, perfectly highlighted the plot details and built our suspense… This memorable trailer made us eager to see more, we can’t wait for the movie!

Spirit of Discovery and ImagiNation Award (Spirit of DI)

This award is given in recognition of those who act as superior role models in the areas of spirit, sportsmanship and volunteerism.

No Spirit of DI Awards were presented at this tournament.
