2015PURPLEX2Of the many aspects that Destination Imagination teaches, from creativity, collaboration and communication skills, one of the most misunderstood are the improv skills. Improv, to many in the U.S., has become “Who’s Line Is It Anyway”. While I personally like the show, improv is much deeper and involved, as many of our middle and secondary teams can tell you. It is about the ability to collaborate with others and clearly present ideas that keep a theme moving and an audience engaged. And even that is an understatement.

, as part of Fast Company magazine’s Future of Work series wrote an outstanding article looking at why top companies and MBA programs are teaching improv. She says, in part:

“GETTING THROWN A CURVEBALL WHILE IN TRAINING—LIKE DANCING OR SINGING—IS BELIEVED TO INCREASE COLLABORATION, CREATIVITY, AND AN OPENNESS TO RISK-TAKING”.
