After winning honors for creativity, collaboration and problem solving in local and state tournaments, 41 teams from schools around the state are among those who have earned the right to represent New Hampshire and travel to Destination Imagination’s Global Finals, the largest creative thinking and problem solving competition in the world from May 20-23 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Destination Imagination is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that facilitates students learning creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication skills by participating in fun, academic challenges based in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), the arts and service learning. Students develop situation and project management skills, as well as confidence.

The Global Finals events brings together the best teams from teams in 48 states and 18 countries. The Destination Imagination program, or “D.I.” each year has over 200,000 students in 30 countries participating in the program. Teams begin to form in schools and community groups starting in September.

The presentation sponsor for the event is Disney, who is hosting several hands on workshops. This year’s Global Finals Innovation Expo will house dozens of hands-on exhibits from NASA, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, National Geographic, Oracle Academy and many other innovative companies. In addition, students and families will have the opportunity transform their surroundings in an all-new Scotch Imagination Treehouse exhibit, sponsored by 3M and Scotch.

Destination Imagination will be streaming opening and closing ceremonies live, thanks to IBM sponsorship at: http://bit.ly/DITV-NH starting at 6:45PM on Wednesday, May 20.

Destination Imagination participants and attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in more than 100 skills workshops ranging from 3-D printing to Broadway dance to computer science.
