Instant Challenge Time!
Below is a matrix you can use to create a variety of Performance based Instant Challenges for your team. To create a challenge, select one from each of the columns. You can select all from one line for an easier challenge, or mix it up (either randomly or by choice) to make it a bit more difficult. Note: If you have the selected object use it, if not they are imaginary props!
Challenge: Create a story about a character that takes place in a certain place. The character is trying to accomplish a goal, but needs to overcome an obstacle. Your skit should include the use of an object in some way.
Time: You will have up to 4 minutes (can use 5 if it’s more difficult) to use your IMAGINATION to plan and practice your skit and then up to 2 minutes to present your PERFORMANCE to the appraisers.
Scoring: You will receive:
- 5 points (20 Max) for including each of the components (character, place, goal, obstacle, object)
- Up to 30 points for how creatively you use the object in your performance
- Up to 30 points for the creativity of your performance
- Up to 20 points for how well your team works together
Now that you’ve got the hang of it, feel free to expand the matrix with your own ideas!
Over the course of the next couple of months we’ll be periodically posting Instant Challenges that you can use to practice and strengthen skills with your teams. Below is a list of materials to gather together for the IC’s we’ll be posting. If there are materials that are hard to find, you can always make substitutions! It’s all about being creative!
